I’m a lecturer of English at the English Department of the State University of Surabaya (a.k.a. Universitas Negeri Surabaya), Indonesia. My research interests are literature, cultural studies, and literacy as social practice. My PhD thesis is on literacy practices carried out by Indonesian domestic workers in Hong Kong. This research has led me to a broader concept of literacy education and how it relates to empowerment, as well as literacy as social practice in general.
All writings in this blog are, therefore, about people doing literacy for different purposes in various socio-cultural contexts.
